Rebecca Cusack grew up playing on the shores of Rissers Beach, reading at the Bridgewater Library, and finger painting on the South Shore of Nova Scotia (Pijinuiskaq). Now based in Halifax (Kjipuktuk), she can be found surfing small waves, working in her studio, or borrowing more books than she can carry. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Her work is rooted in the natural world. She finds solace among trees, plants, and in places where the sun or mist touches your skin. Her practice aims to capture the sense of peace, wonder, and play found at the ocean’s edge or in the quiet contemplation of flowers. She draws inspiration from artists like Tom Forrestal and Georgia O’Keeffe.
Rebecca’s career bridges visual art and craft, with deep ties to embodied experience. She earned a BFA in Fashion and Textiles from NSCAD University in 2014. Her artwork is held in private collections internationally. When not in her studio, she works in costume design for film and television, on productions such as FROM and The Trades.
